THE START OF SOMETHING BIG, oil on canvas, 24X18
FANNING OUT beneath my feet and towering overhead,
shifting greens and golds make my eyes flutter and lungs respire.
Now safe inside forgotten walls
I write these words on scripted limbs
sawn and shaped to chair and table
and sacrifice their heat one final time
on the altar of my stone-cold hearth,
chant ashen prayers over lilac roots.
