FOR THOSE OF YOU who expressed interest but were unable to attend, here are a few scenes from last night’s opening reception for “The Essence of Abstraction,” a group exhibition now to March 25 at Agora Gallery, 530 West 25th Street, New York, New York.
It was a great evening of art and conversation with a lively crowd, including some hardy souls who made the trek down from New England. Many thanks to all for the kind wishes.

Thank you Betsy! I certainly love to paint, and I am motivated to get better at it. The reception was wonderful and the show helps, and I am looking forward to what the future may bring.
Congratulations, Russell, on your opening at Agora! I deeply wish I could have been there to support you and celebrate the great occasion with you. Unfortunately, I’m still recovering from my shoulder surgery and need to stay pretty close to home in Wallingford with Velma. Congratulations on your New York debut. It’s looks like a great scene.
I know there are lots of galleries in the city, but so few people have work good enough to hang on a gallery wall in New York. What a compliment and tribute to your work and your talent. You’ve always been one to follow your passion and your muse – I admire you so much for that – and I’m very happy that it’s being recognized.

Exciting to see your photos in a New York gallery setting – congratulations! The Flower district was just the perfect place to stay to get away from the winter doldrums – I love Bar’s explosive photo of the tulips and daffodils – it has the same energy as your paintings ! Hope our paths cross sometime this year – C-ville would welcome you!

Thank you Joyce! It was a wonderful evening and its warmth lingers on in the form of notes like yours. I am just trying to take it all in and enjoy the moment, even as I pick up my paintbrush again. Seeing the other artwork and meeting the other artists was highly stimulating, and I feel even more energized to keep working at getting better and learning more. I would love to come for a visit, and we should think about some good dates. In the meantime, I hope you are well!
