THE BIRDS AND MICE have no idea that I take digital images of their humble footprints in the snow and scatter them like seeds in cyberspace, appropriating their wandering trails and immortalizing their imperative to seek sustenance in every corner (bread drawer to hanging feeder to weeds spiking the pasture), traces of their simple, plain habits captured in crystal hieroglyphs, the brief, random beauty of their daily struggle available for view for all Internet time at any moment, from any computer.

  1. Beautiful! I’m remembering the morning after the coyote powwow in Litchfield with Baby Girl.

They know nothing of digital images,
their humble footprints in the snow
    scattered like seeds in cyberspace.
    I lift their wandering trails,
    immortalize their needs.
In every corner – bread drawer, feeder, weeds that spike the pasture –
    traces of their plain habits
can be captured in crystal hieroglyph,
brief, random beauty of their daily struggle
for all to view, for all time, at any moment, from anywhere.
